Breaking Up Christmas

from 12 Songs of Christmas by Simon Robinson

/

about

The tradition of Breaking Up Christmas was found mostly in northwestern North Carolina and southwestern Virginia, is 12 days of partying, dancing, and music making ending on January 6th, Old Christmas day. The tune itself comes from the Roundpeak area, with Tommy Jarrell's recording being one of the most rip roaring versions, and often was the last dance of the night's festivities. The tune is usually played in the key of A, but we are playing in G.
