Troubles 02:33
Oh lordy me and oh lordy my See when you haven’t got a dime When your trouble's are so deep You can't eat nor sleep See when your troubles are like mine See when your troubles are like mine I asked the Captain for a job He said, “Son what can you do?” “I can line a track, I can ball the jack" "I can pick and shovel, too" "Pick and shovel, too" Oh lordy me and oh lordy my See when you haven’t got a dime When your trouble's are so deep You can't eat nor sleep See when your troubles are like mine See when your troubles are like mine Oh lordy me and oh lordy my See when you haven’t got a dime When your trouble's are so deep You can't eat nor sleep See when your troubles are like mine See when your troubles are like mine

When a boy goes wrong and leaves his home He’ll pass by the good of his town Oh go lend him your hand & help him to stand Be kind to a man while he’s down. Forgive & forget there’s good in him yet He’ll drink his sorrow to drown Oh go lend him your hand and help him to stand Be kind to man while he’s down. When a man is down don’t pass him by Just give him one smile Oh go lend him your hand and help him to stand Be kind to man while he’s down. Forgive & forget there’s good in him yet He’ll drink his sorrow to drown Oh go lend him your hand and help him to stand Be kind to man while he’s down. When a hand is lent to a soul a soul that's almost spent There’ll be a bright star in his crown, Oh go lend him your hand and help him to stand Be kind to a man while he’s down Forgive & forget there’s good in him yet He’ll drink his sorrow to drown Oh go lend him your hand and help him to stand Be kind to man while he’s down.

Every Night When The Sun Goes In Every Night When The Sun Goes In Every Night When The Sun Goes In I hang down my head, and mournful cry. True love don’t weep, true love don’t mourn, True love don’t weep, true love don’t mourn, True love don’t weep, or mourn for me, I’m going away to Marble Town. I wish to the Lord that train would come, I wish to the Lord that train would come, I wish to the Lord that train would come, to take me back where I come from. True love don’t weep, true love don’t mourn, True love don’t weep, true love don’t mourn, True love don’t weep, or mourn for me, I’m going away to Marble Town. I wish to the Lord my babe was born, and sittin’ on his daddy’s knee. And me, poor girl, was dead and gone, and the green grass growin’ over me. True love don’t weep, true love don’t mourn, True love don’t weep, true love don’t mourn, True love don’t weep, or mourn for me, I’m going away to Marble Town.

It's been a year since last we met We may never meet again I have struggled to forget But the struggle was in vain For her voice lives on the breeze And her spirit comes at will In the midnight on the seas, her bright smile haunts me still In the midnight on the seas, her bright smile haunts me still I have sailed a falling sky And I have chartered hazard's path I have seen the storm arise Like a giant in his wrath Every danger I have known That a reckless life can fill Though her presence is now flown, her bright smile haunts me still Though her presence is now flown, her bright smile haunts me still At the first sweet dawn of light When I gaze upon the deep Her form still greets my sight While the stars their vigils keep When I close my aching eyes Sweet dreams my memory fill And from sleep when I arise, her bright smile haunts me still And from sleep when I arise, her bright smile haunts me still

Train on the island, hear the whistle blow Go and tell my true love, I'm sick and I can't go (x2) Train on the island, hear that whistle squeal Go and tell my true love how lonely I do feel (x2) Gonna build me a banjo, string it up with twine The only tune that it would play, I wish that girl was mine (x2) Train on the island, thought I heard it squeal, Go and tell my true love I can't hold the wheel (x2)

Johnson Boys 02:33
Johnson boys went a-courtin' Coon creek girl so pretty and sweet They couldn't make no comversation They didn't know where to put their feet They didn't know where to put their feet They didn't know where to put their feet Johnson boys raised in the ashes Didn’t know how to court a maid Turn their backs and hide their faces Sight of a pretty girl makes ’em afraid Sight of a pretty girl makes ’em afraid Sight of a pretty girl makes ’em afraid Johnson boys went to the mountains Johnson boys didn't mean to stay They came back broke and hungry Had no money for to pay their way Had no money for to pay their way Had no money for to pay their way Johnson boys went a-huntin’ Took two dogs and went astray Tore their clothes and scratched their faces Didn’t come home ’til the break of day Didn’t come home ’til the break of day Didn’t come home ’til the break of day

I feel the shadows now upon me And the angels beckon to me Before I go dear sisters and brothers Won't you come and sing for me Sing those hymns we sang together In that plain little church with the benches all worn How dear to my heart how precious the moments We stood shaking hands and singing a song My burden is heavy my way has grown weary I have traveled a road that is long And it would warm this old heart my dear brother If you come and sing me one song Sing those hymns we sang together In that plain little church with the benches all worn How dear to my heart how precious the moments We stood shaking hands and singing a song In my home beyond the dark river Your sweet faces no more I will see Until we meet where there's no more sad parting Won't you come and sing for me Sing those hymns we sang together In that plain little church with the benches all worn How dear to my heart how precious the moments We stood shaking hands and singing a song

Trials dark on ev'ry hand, and we cannot understand All the ways that God would lead us to that blessed Promised Land; But He'll guide us with His eye, and we'll follow till we die; We will understand it better by and by. By and by, when the morning comes, When the saints of God are gathered home, We will tell the story how we've overcome; We will understand it better by and by. Oft our cherished plans have failed, disappointments have prevailed, And we've wandered in the darkness, heavyhearted and alone; But we're trusting in the Lord, and according to His Word, We will understand it better by and by. By and by, when the morning comes, When the saints of God are gathered home, We will tell the story how we've overcome; We will understand it better by and by. Temptations, hidden snares often take us unawares, And our hearts are made to bleed for some thoughtless word or deed, And we wonder why the test when we try to do our best, But we'll understand it better by and by. By and by, when the morning comes, When the saints of God are gathered home, We will tell the story how we've overcome; We will understand it better by and by.

Farewell, my friends, I'm bound for Canaan I'm trav'ling through the wilderness Your company has been delightful You, who doth leave my mind distressed I go away, behind to leave you Perhaps never to meet again; But if we ever have this pleasure I hope we'll meet on Canaan's land

about

On the 30th September I'll be releasing an album of songs I recorded during the first few months of lockdown. The songs and tunes on the album are mainly all traditional American songs, but they helped me through the darkest days. I hope they speak to you in the same way they did to me.
