about

This fiddle tune comes from the playing of Leslie and Hendrix Freeny
from Freeny's Barn Dance Band. This band came from the music-rich
Central Mississippi area around Leake County and recorded a number of
tunes around 1930, released on "Mississippi String Bands Vol 1 1928 –
1935" by Document Records. Sullivan’s Hollow was named after a place
in neighbouring Scott County about which many ghost stories used to be
told. This tune has a fittingly eerie sound! I first learnt this tune from
Dave Young, a familiar face to many in the Old Time scene here in
England. Banjo is tuned to Double D (aDADE)
